ZLocator — Privacy Policy
Updated 22 August 2026.
Privacy
ZLocator is a DayZ map locator by HD-SofT Oy, a Finnish company. The controller of the data described here is HD-SofT Oy, info@zlocator.com.
There is no account. We do not know your name, your email or your DayZ character — the app identifies your device by a random identifier and nothing else.
What we process
- Pictures of your screen. When tracking is on, the app captures a frame roughly every three seconds. Before anything leaves the device the picture is cropped to the frame you locked, straightened and scaled down, so what is sent is the game picture only. The rest of the camera view — your room included — never leaves the device.
- A device identifier. A random value created when the app is first launched and stored on the device. It is used to rate-limit abuse and to connect consecutive fixes into one session. Reinstalling the app creates a new one. It is shown in the app's About screen.
- Your in-game position estimate. The previous position is sent with each request so the next match can be narrowed down. These are coordinates inside the game map. The app has no location permission and cannot read your real-world location — the only permissions it requests are
CAMERAandINTERNET. - Ordinary server logs. IP address, timestamp and request path, as any web server records.
What we do not process: real-world location, contacts, files, microphone, advertising identifiers. The app contains no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK and no advertising network — that is verifiable from the build configuration, not merely asserted.
Why we process it
| Purpose | Basis (GDPR Art. 6) |
|---|---|
| Recognising where you are and answering the request | Contract, 6(1)(b) |
| Keeping a session coherent between fixes | Contract, 6(1)(b) |
| Preventing abuse and overload | Legitimate interest, 6(1)(f) |
| Improving recognition accuracy from stored pictures | Consent, 6(1)(a) — off by default, switched on only by you |
| Statutory bookkeeping for subscriptions | Legal obligation, 6(1)(c) |
Nothing is used for advertising or profiling, and nothing is sold.
Where the data lives
On our own servers in Finland, inside the EU. There is no transfer outside the EEA.
Payments run through Google Play (and later the App Store), which act as separate controllers under their own policies. We receive only the subscription status — never card details.
How long we keep it
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Pictures you allowed us to keep | 90 days, then deleted automatically |
| Pictures if you did not allow it | Not stored at all — processed and discarded |
| Session position state | 15 minutes |
| Server logs | 30 days |
| Subscription status | While the subscription is active, plus the period bookkeeping law requires |
Your rights
You can ask for access to your data, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interest. You can withdraw the image-storage consent at any time in the app's settings, and withdrawing it also deletes what was stored for your device.
Write to info@zlocator.com and include the device identifier from the About screen — it is the only way we can find your data, because we hold no account, name or email.
You can also complain to the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman (Tietosuojavaltuutetun toimisto, tietosuoja.fi).
Cookies and local storage
zlocator.com (this website):
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
zl-consent | localStorage | Remembers whether you allowed analytics | Until you clear it |
_ga | Cookie | Google Analytics — only after you allow it | 2 years |
_ga_HB3DX0TQBZ | Cookie | Google Analytics session state — only after you allow it | 2 years |
Analytics is switched off until you agree. Until then Google Analytics is loaded in consent-denied mode: it sets no cookies and sends no identifiers. You can change or withdraw the choice at any time from Cookie choice in the site footer.
The app sets no cookies and uses no web views for tracking.
Age
DayZ is rated PEGI 16 / ESRB Mature. ZLocator is not directed at children under 16.
Changes
If this notice changes materially, the app shows the change before the next tracking session starts. The date at the top tells you which version you are reading.
